JACK’S DIVING LOCKER

SUBMITTED BY SHELBY LEICHER, RETAIL MANAGER FOR JACK’S DIVING LOCKER

Jack’s Diving Locker is one of the oldest dive shops in the world and is the oldest here in Kona, proudly serving our community for 39 years! Through those decades, we’ve experienced numerous economic, natural disaster and pandemic crisis, but COVID-19 was the first time in JDL history that we had to close our doors for prolonged time. It is definitely the most unique situation we’ve experienced as a business.

We are so lucky to have a committed group of kama’aina divers in our Dive Club, parents and children who love our infamous Sea Camps, devoted divers from around the world, and a dedicated, hardworking crew that Jack’s is not only surviving these tough economic times, but we’re actually prospering.

We’ve grown “richer” in our technological utilization and outreach and feel we’ve grown even more connected to all our customers near and far. We will always remember our first “online” Ocean Fair, where we broadcasted our guest speakers and had a huge outreach, something we had never considered to do before. We had a lot of learning to do in making it happen, but it was truly amazing! We miss our diving ʻohana from around the world and cannot wait to have them blowing bubbles and making memories again, but we now feel more connected to them thanks to technology and will definitely keep our new media skills going strong and leading us into the future.

Like a ship must adjust its sails, Jack’s will continue to adjust our business to keep going strong. Mahalo nui to all our ʻohana near and far.
