The tour leaves from Keauhou pier, travels north to Kahalu'u
Bay, then heads south to Honaunau. |
Each year the Kona Historical Society
partners with Fair Wind Cruises to present fundraising historical
tours along the Kona coastline. Passengers are treated to
a Sunday afternoon sail aboard the catamaran FairWind II between
Kahalu`u Bay and Honaunau. Kama`aina resident John Mitchell
provides the historical narrative prepared by Kona historian
Jean Greenwell; among the points of interest that are covered
are the holua slide at Keauhou, Kuano`o battlefield, Kealakekua
Bay and the Captain Cook monument, the battle of Mokuohai
at Ke`ei, and Pu`uhonua o Honaunau. The sightings of whales
and dolphins are often an added treat.
The cost for current members is $45 and $55
for non-members. Pupus are served and a no-host bar is available.
The tours depart from Keauhou Bay at 2:00 PM and return to
Keauhou at 5:00 PM. Please call the Kona Historical Society
or check the calendar on this
website for tour dates.
